It will be 50 kilometres they said. You'll be fine they said.

99130 Levi, Finland

My day off on Thursday was meant to be relaxing. Instead, I agreed to go mountain biking to some old gold mine. The guys said the trip would be like a 50km and I was sure I would never be able to do it, but somehow they convinced me to go along anyway.

Turns out they estimated the distance a bit wrong. It was 75km. By the time we made it back six hours later, my entire body hurt from my feet to my neck and hands, I had been bitten by dozens of mosquitoes and even shed a few tears. Afterwards I felt amazing despite all the pain though, I mean I biked 75k. Not quite sure how I did it, I'm not in a great shape and had only ever gone mountain biking once before in my entire life.

Here are a few more pictures from St. Petersburg. I want to go back, these pictures just remind me of how lovely the city is in the summer.

After these I'll finally start going through the over 2000 photos I took in Spain and Switzerland in May and June.

St. Petersburg, Russia, 15-18th of May, 2014.

Питер, любовь моя | 01

When my dad first told me he was going to Russia to work for a year, I started crying and asked "why Russia? Why not anywhere else?" I had never been, but for some reason I would've rather gone and lived pretty much anywhere else.

One year turned to three, and I fell in love with St. Petersburg the moment I first lay eyes on the city. When I found out we were moving back to Finland just after my 18th birthday, I cried a lot more than in the beginning. I've missed the city ever since I left. It changed me and a part of me will always want back for some reason. Whenever I do get to go back, I feel like I've come home.

I shot these on my visit back this past May. I'm hoping to still go back in August, but we'll see whether I have the time for it or not.

On the slopes

Levi, Finland

Spring is definitely the best time of the year for snowboarding. Although you might not get too much fresh powder, the sun makes up for it. It's not that cold, either, meaning that you don't have to wear so many layers of clothes that it ends up being hard to move. The past few weeks here in Levi have been amazing. Here are a few photos I took on the slopes.

Who, what & why

Levi, Finland

Hey there.

I'm Niina. I turn 23 in May. I'm a Tourism Management student at Bournemouth University, UK. At the moment I'm living in Levi in Lapland. I did a 40-week internship here and love this place so much that I don't want to leave.

I've been passionate about seeing the world as long as I can remember. I'm also a dreamer, and not so surprisingly most of all my dreams are related to traveling.

I'm also in love with photography. It's something I want to get better at, because there's just something amazing about capturing the beauty of the world on camera or film.

This blog will probably mainly be a photo blog, but I do also plan on writing about traveling, health and fitness and whatever I happen to feel like writing.
